“What is it that Engineering can do for us humans?”
Welcome to the website of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering under the College of Engineering at Korea University.
Established in 1962, the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering was the first department of the College of Engineering. Over the years, it has produced more than 3,000 bachelor’s and 1,000 master’s and doctoral degree holders. Today, the department consists of 23 faculty and six staff members.
The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, which focuses on education in chemical engineering, is committed to nurturing creative industrial leaders for various fields, such as petrochemicals, chemical engineering materials, energy/environment, nanobiocatalysis, bio-based chemical technology, and biological engineering. These efforts have laid the foundation for the production of outstanding talents in related fields, and contributed to the creation of new and synergistic industries.
By actively pursuing graduate-level research in advanced science and technology, the department has received an annual amount of eight billion won in research funds from institutes such as Brain Korea 21 and the Engineering Research Center (ERC). In line with the university’s globalization initiative, it has appointed one foreign faculty member and offers English-language lectures for international students. Thanks to these efforts, the department was ranked 48th in the Chemical Engineering category in the 2015 QS University Rankings.
In 2017, the department office and key facilities will be relocated to the new engineering building. The department seeks to become a global leader in education, research, and industry-academy cooperation. Your continued support and encouragement are greatly appreciated.
